Tourist Guide San Miguel de Allende

San Miguel de Allende is a small laid-back town located in the Bajio region of Guanajuato, Mexico. The Bajio Mountains tower over the quaint colonial town, which is 275 km north-west of the capital, Mexico City.

San Miguel, founded in 1542, was declared as a national monument in 1926; this meant that no modern-designed buildings could be constructed and that all buildings must represent true colonial style.

The town, which lies in a semi-desert mountainous region, has a moderate climate with average temperatures in the day ranging from 18°C–26°C. In summers, temperatures can rise up to over 35°C.

San Miguel de Allende has a population of approximately 85,000. The town is served by the Aeopuerto Internacional de Queretaro (about 70 km away) and the Aeropuerto Del Bajio (nearly 170 km away).
