La Paz, meaning ‘peace’ in Spanish, is the capital city of Baja California Sur in Mexico. This tranquil little city is surrounded by the Sonoran desert and the city of Cabo San Lucas which lies to the north.
Its location between the coastal mountains and the Gulf of California makes it a relaxing place to experience pure Mexican hospitality.
The city enjoys its share of sunshine with hot summers (mercury rising above 19°C) and cool, windy winters (temperatures around 1°C–17°C). The monsoon is at its peak in September. Evenings are enjoyably cool with the Coromuel winds blowing into the Bay of La Paz.
The city has a population of more than 200,000 people. Apart from being a quaint port town, it also has commercial fishing, tourism and industries like silver mining and pearls as major sources of revenue.
