The main attraction in Mexicali is the Museo Regional de la Universidad Autónoma de Baja California, a regional museum with archaeological and historical items on display. You could also visit the monument of Junipero Serra, who was a famous Franciscan Friar.
Outside the city is La Rumorosa, rock formations from where a panoramic view of the city can be enjoyed. Hand-gliding and cycling are popular sports here. Close to this is the Laguna Salada, a shallow lake, with a beautiful view.
The fishing village of San Felipe is a popular seaside resort. Head to the Cañon Tajo, part of the Sierra de Juarez mountainous range, for adventurous activities like rock-climbing, hiking and rappelling. In this range is the ‘Trono Blanco’, the highest monolith in Mexico.
Mexicali is popular with many Americans, for its vibrant night life. In October, as part of the festival, Fiesta del Sol, there is live music and dance, cockfights and bullfighting.
