Camino a San Juan de Aragon is a federal district close to Mexico City. It is a large area but the main point of interest for most tourists is the two major zoos which it contains. The area is most easily located by referring to the Benito Juarez International Airport, from which the zoos are about a 10 minute drive.
The San Juan de Aragón Zoo, on the opposite side of Chapultepec Park, opened on 20 November 1962, and now unfortunately looks very old, rather as Chapultepec did before its total remodelling. Thankfully a major refurbishment of this potentially great sanctuary is in the pipeline, though it can be difficult to tell exactly when such projects will come to fruition in the current state of the Mexican and Global economies. Needless to say there are many hurdles and deals to be done! It is still well worth the time if you’re hanging around the city at a loose end. The zoo is closed on Mondays.
