In Mexico City you'll find the home of the country's most renowned artwoks in the Museo Nacional de Arte which is also a budget attraction in town. You can also admire a landmark of Neoclassical style architecture building from the outside, for free! Anyway admissions to museums are downright cheap in the city. It has permanent collections of artists such as Josè Maria Velasco, Angel Zarraga, Leonora Carrington, Luis Bunuel, El Corcito, Juan Soriano and more.
There's a great place then to see and experience the folk and indigenous art from different areas of the country which are a stepping stone of the mexican culture today. It's the Museo Nacional de las Culturas Populares and you'll find it in Avenida Hidalgo 289.
Another place not to miss is the house where Frida Kahlo spent a large portion of her life as an artist and housed her inspirations: the Museo Frida Kahlo also known as the Casa Azul. Now over 23.000 people a month visit the house to have a chance to see the folk art that was a great inspiration for her.
Unlike many other cities in the World ,the prices for attractions and museums generally range from 1$ to 3$ so really can't find anything cheaper than that! And of such great value to experience!
A great place to start your visit is the city historical centre, the Centro Historico. Close you'll find the Palacio Nacional, built on the site of Montezuma residence and now house of the National Goverment. Outstanding murals by Mexican artist Diego Rivera are displayed inside.
There are also Atzec traces close to the Metropolitan Cathedral: next to it you'll find the ongoing archaeological site excavations of the Templo Mayor twin pyramids that once represented the centre of religious life in Atzec culture. There's a museum attached with fascinating relics of ancient Mexican culture to discolse the history of Mexico then and now.
