Michoacán, Mexico has an area of 59,928 sq km and a population of about 3,966,000. Its capital is Morelia.
Michoacán shares its boundaries with the Mexican states of Jalisco, Guanajuato, Queretaro, Mexico, Guerrero and Colima and is bounded by the Pacific Ocean in the south. This region is home to diverse topography in the form of high plateaus, valleys, rivers and beaches.
Michoacán was home to a pre-Hispanic population such as the Tarascans and also has significant African influence. Michoacán’s population is mainly Mestizo (mixed indigenous and foreign ancestry).
