For artwork, visit the Amado Nervo Museum, which exhibits various personal items and the work of the famous Mexican poet, Amado Nervo. In Tepic, the Cathedral of Purísima Concepción de María, built in the Neo-gothic style, and the Government Palace, with murals highlighting Mexican history, are worth visiting. In the town of Compostela is the Cathedral built in the sixteenth century. The Regional Museum of Anthropology and History, exhibits historical and ethnological items. Close to the town of Ixtlan del Rio is the archaeological zone, Precortesiana. The beaches in San Blas, Nuevo Pallarta and Punta de Mita are well renowned for their warm waters and pristine white beaches. For a unique experience, try whale-watching in the town of Punta de Mita. A great attraction for tourists in the months of November and December in Singaita are 300 varieties of migrating birds. The Bucerias Bay is ideal for fishing and swimming. The adventurous could try rock climbing in the San Juan mountain range. Close to Tepic is the Mexcaltitan Island, rich in animal and birdlife. The town of Ixtlan del Rio in Nayarit is famous for its handicrafts and pottery. A unique experience would be to visit the sugarcane and tobacco plantations east of Tepic.
