The most important museum in Tepic is the Regional Museum of Anthropology and History, which displays historical items. The Cuatro Pueblos Museum showcases the culture of the four main ethnic groups of Tepic: huicholes, coras, tepehuanos and mexicaneros. For artwork, go to the Amado Nervo Museum, which exhibits various personal items and the work of the famous Mexican poet, Amado Nervo.
The Cathedral of Purísima Concepción de María built in the Neo-gothic style and the Government Palace with murals highlighting Mexican history are worth visiting. Another important monument is the Temple of Cruz de Zacate built in the sixteenth century.
Close to Tepic is the Mexcaltitan Island, rich in animal and birdlife. Head to the town of San Blas with lovely beaches and lagoons.
The adventurous could try rock climbing San Juan mountain range. Another unique experience would be to visit the sugarcane and tobacco plantations east of Tepic.
