Puerto Escondido, also known as the Hidden Port, is located in the Oaxaca state of Mexico. It lies in the municipality of San Pedro Mixtepec Distrito 22 and is an important port town on the southern Pacific Coast.
Puerto Escondido is more than 300 km south-west of the state’s capital Oaxaca City and around 110 km west from the Huatulco Bay. The town has a small airport of its own, although the Benito Juarez International Airport in Mexico City offers you more choice in flights.
Average temperatures in the wet summers range between 25°C–35°C, while dry winters witness the mercury drop to 18°C.
The town has a population of more than 20,000 residents. Originally a coffee shipment town, Puerto Escondido is now a tourist magnet, especially among the world’s surfers, because of its huge 4 m waves, which make for an unforgettable ride.
