Puerto Penasco, or Rocky Point, is located in the north-western region of Sonora, Mexico. It lies on the Sea of Cortez in the Baja Peninsula.
The city is a popular seaside resort and a year-round getaway among Americans because of its proximity to the US state of Arizona. It is barely 100 km from the US border and 3 hours from Tucson, Arizona.
Puerto Penasco has a small international airport, which has air connections to nearby regions. The city has a warm, dry climate with average temperatures being around 12°C in the wet winter and more than 30°C in the sunny summer months.
The population of the city is nearly 50,000 people. Apart from fishing, a major industry in Puerto Penasco is tourism, with it being in a ‘passport-free zone’ to promote its sparkling coastline.
