Cancun is the most important tourist resort in Quintana Roo. Well known for its fantastic landscapes and splendid beaches, the night life is equally vibrant. For a unique experience, try diving near the island of Isla Mujeres to find a bronze Cross planted in the seabed. Close to Isla Mujeres are coral reefs, El Garrafón Bay where you can observe tropical fish and the Playa Cocteros and Playa Ponchol beaches. The Xel-há National Park offers tourists snorkelling and swimming opportunities. The Chankanaab Marine Park has an interior coral floor, one of a kind. Chankanab and Milagros lagoons are popular tourist spots.
The Museo de la Cultura Maya (Museum of Maya culture) in Chetumal showcases the art, religion and daily life of the indigenous Mayan people. The towns of Cobá and Tulum are archaeological sites with many primitive Mayan structures such as temples and pyramids. In the town of Bacalar is the Fuerte de San Felipean, a Spanish fort built in the early eighteenth century, which now houses the Regional Museum with historical displays.
Visit the town of Felipe Carrillo Puerto mainly inhabited by Indians where you can purchase traditional handicrafts and experience the native way of life.
