The National Mayan Museum of Cancun, properly called in Spanish the ‘Museo del National Institute of Anthropology and History’ (Museo del INAH / INAH Museum) is the place to head for to unpack all of the archaelogical detail that you’ll be soaking up as you tour around the historical riches the Cancun area has to offer.
It is located on the southerly side of the Centro de Convenciones, within the Zona Hotelera and can be found relatively easily by public transport or private taxi, it is well known by the drivers as a choice tourist destination.
Many of the exhibits date from the 14th, 15th and 16th centuries from which there is a wealth of architectural heritage preserved, such as jewllery, masks and skulls... not for the fainthearted! Admission is free and the museum if open from Tuesday to Friday - 09:00 to 20:00, Saturday and Sunday - 10:00 to 19:00.
