Reviews Mayan Riviera
Mayan Riviera
The Mayan riviera is located on the Yucatan peninsula on the far eastern coast of Mexico. This historic stretch of coastline has been famous for luxury resorts for years but also houses a host of smaller boutique hotels and fantastic restuarants.
The main draw though is the fantastic beaches. Ranging along the epic highway 309 they are renowned for good reason. The primary destination for tourist is the Playa del Carmen (Playacar) situated next to the small city that marks the northern limit and beginning of the riviera. Unfortunatly in recent years this strip of beaches has sufferred ersoion and so is not what it was, but this has affected the northern beaches more than those in the south so there are still some good spots available.
My advice is to head instead to Xpu-ha which must be reached via a poorly marked road - ask locals or the hotel staff for advice and directions. Once here though you’ll find a fantastic little beach, often much quieter than the well known spots, and the snorkeling is great!
