Plaza 2000, Cancun is a pretty standard mall from the outside, and to be honest from the inside too. The point of interest here is not the range of shops or the international brands, or even the facilities or the shopping, its the banality of everyday life in another country and another culture.
If you’re anything like me you’ll relish wandering through this as other strange everday spaces that aren’t meant to be interesting for tourists, that aren’t meant to be a ‘cultural’ experience, but which are, perhaps moreso than the often over-packaged experiences we are sold.
Local come here to buy cheap clothing and shoes and the range of these is impressive (so if you need to stock up and funds are running low then here is another reason to recommend Plaza 2000). You can find it on Crucero, Avenue Tulum & Lopez-Portillo. Also look out for the street food vendors outside for a further taste of what it’s like to live here everyday.
