San Luis Potosi is the capital city of the state of San Luis Potosi in north-eastern Mexico. The city lies in the Mesa Central and has an altitude of about 1,900 m above sea level.
San Luis Potosi is popularly called the City of Gardens (or La Ciudad de Los Jardines) because of an abundance of green parks with quaint fountains and benches. The San Luis Potosi Airport is just 2 km north of the city, while the Del Bajio Airport is located about 140 km south-west in Leon, Guanajuato.
The climate varies with the terrain of the region. Average temperatures in the city range between 11°C–26°C.
The city has more than 700,000 inhabitants staying within its city limits. Its main industries include breweries and textiles. Tourism is also an important commercial activity owing to the city’s colonial architecture and picturesque surroundings.
