Begin your sightseeing of San Luis Potosi at the quaint Plaza de Armas (town square) with the pink-stoned Cathedral, which is a National Monument. Also nearby are the Templo De Carmen dating back to the eighteenth century and the Baroque-styled Camarin de la Virgen chapel with its golden altarpieces.
More architectural masterpieces can be found at the Templo de La Compania (which bears a sugarcane image of Jesus Christ) and the Ipina building (built in neoclassic-style with pink quarry stone).
To get a taste of the city’s culture, visit the Culture House with its exhibits of paintings and archaeological finds. Also visit the pink-coloured mansion called Museo Nacional de la Mascara (mask museum), which has a fine collection of over 700 Mexican and Asian masks.
Excellent souvenirs can be bought at the Mercado Hidalgo. Popular buys include Santa Maria Rebozos and native handicrafts.
