This region has a number of natural attractions. Topolobampo, a seaside resort, is characterised for its spectacular beaches, fishing and sailing opportunities. The Aquarium in Mazatlán has an impressive collection of marine life. Shells from seas from all over the world are displayed in the Marine Shells Museum. Around Culiacán are the thermal springs of Carrizalejo and Macurimi and the picturesque lagoons of Chirigueto and Yameto. At El Farallon, a rocky island, you can find seals and sea lions. The Santa Maria Island has enormous sand dunes where you can enjoy sand biking. Gruta Mexico is a cave with beautiful stalactites and stalagmites. The Sinaloa Park in Los Mochis is ideal for recreation.
The Museum of Mineralogy traces the mining history of this region and the Museum of Culiacán houses archaeological exhibits. The Cathedral of San Miguel Árcangel, an eighteenth-century construction, and the Rosario Church in Guasave are well-frequented ecclesiastical buildings in the state.
You could visit the rice and sugarcane fields at Los Mochis. Along the seacoast of San Ignacio on large rocks, you can find petroglyphs, and in the area of Cajon de Piaxtla, there are ancient paintings inside caves.
