Sonora, Mexico has an area of 182,052 sq km and a population of about 2,394,800. Its capital is Hermosillo.

Sonora, the second largest state in Mexico, is bounded by Arizona, USA and by the Mexican states of Sinaloa, Baja California and Chihuahua. The topography of this region is diverse with deserts, mountain ranges, valleys and a coastline.

The state is mainly populated by Mestizos (mixed indigenous and foreign ancestry), but there are also some Indian tribes such as the Pápagos, Opatas and Yaqui.

Closest ocean to Arizona... only 4 hours from Phoenix and Tucson! Hot and humid between June and September. Fabulous in fall and spring. A little cool in winter but nice nonetheless! Great restaurants, boating, safe kid friendly beaches. From ritzy condominiums, hotels, and beautiful private beach homes to affordable hotels. Safe and fun for the whole family!
