Tamaulipas is bounded on the north by Texas, USA and by the Mexican states of Nuevo León, San Luis Potosí and Veracruz. The topography of this region is diverse with wide beaches, lagoons, mountain ranges, plains forests and valleys.
A former Spanish colony, Tamaulipas is predominantly populated by Huastec Indians.
