Ciudad Victoria, or simply Victoria, is the capital of the state of Tamaulipas in North-Eastern Mexico. Founded in 1750, it was given its current name in honour of the first President of Mexico, Guadalupe Victoria.
Ciudad Victoria gained prominence in 1890 after the Monterrey–Tampico Railroad that passed through this city was completed.
The climate is warm and dry all year round. The annual average temperature is 24ºC. It is best to avoid travel in summer, when the temperature could escalate to 40ºC.
With a population of 279,000, the locals are mainly engaged in the manufacturing sector. Ciudad Victoria also acts as an important trade distribution centre as it is equidistant from the financial centre of Monterrey, the oil-rich Tampico port, and the Matamoros border crossing.
