Taxco, called the Silver City, is a beautiful municipality in the south of Mexico. It is part of Guerrero and is at a height of about 1,800 m above sea level. The city is world renowned for its silver mines and has a fitting location as it is built on one side of the towering Sierra Madre del Sur Mountains.
The weather in Taxco is usually hot and humid, with an active rainy season. Temperatures rarely vary throughout the year, with the average annual temperature being around 19°C.
The city is on the old Acapulco highway and is 200 km south-east of the capital, Mexico City. It is the fifth most populated city in the state with a population estimated to be over 50,000 people. Even though it is world famous because of its silver, it still manages to preserve its traditional heritage and atmosphere.
