Tlaxcala, Mexico has an area of 4,016 sq km and a population of about 1,068,200. Its capital is Tlaxcala City.

Tlaxcala, the smallest state in Mexico, is bounded by the states of Puebla, México and Hidalgo. The topography of this region is dominated by plains and plateaus.

Tlaxcala was initially occupied by Indian tribes such as the Nahua, Olmec, and Tlaxcaltecs, before it became a Spanish colony.
