Tlaxcala has everything a small Mexican city should have. If you’re not in the mood to explore the city on foot, the tourist office can arrange for a very reasonably priced tour of the city. Prepare to be impressed with the Mayan murals and art at the Cacaxtla and Xicotencatl ruins, which are still in a well-preserved condition.
The colonial main square has some elegant seventeenth century buildings, cafes and churches. On weekends, the locals assemble in the square and for entertainment provided by local bands. There is even an opportunity to try some Mexican dances.
Make sure to taste specialities like mixiotes (chicken wrapped in leaves), panques de maiz (cornmeal pancakes) or the popular alegrias sweets, while listening to the live band play soothing Mexican music in the sunset.
One of the most popular offerings of Tlaxcala is the Bull Run in the arena, which has gained worldwide recognition as an exciting form of Mexican entertainment.
