Torreón is a city belonging to the northern Mexican state of Coahuila, a part of the La Laguna region. Founded in 1893, it is the largest city in the state. Torreón lies at the intersection of major highway and rail routes and is served by the Francisco Sarabia International Airport.
The climate of Torreón can be extremely hot and dry, with summer temperatures ranging between 30°C–40°C and winter temperatures falling as low as –2°C.
The city has more than 550,000 inhabitants. Although the countryside is quite dry, it is a rich agrarian region owing to artificial irrigation. This favours cotton production and makes Torreón an important industrial city. Flour mills, breweries and rubber factories are also present here.
Even though the city is just over a hundred years old, it has quite a few tourist attractions.
