Tourist Guide Poza Rica

Poza Rica, formerly known as Poza Rica de Hidalgo is a city in Veracruz, Mexico.  As the place was known for its wealth of fish, the place got named as Poza Rica, meaning “Rich pool”.  The city is well known for many oil refineries and many attractions.  As the city is close to the Costa Esmeralda, it is home to beaches like Tecolutla and Tuxpan and due to its metropolitan and hotel infrastructure, the city offers lots of convenient accommodation.

Worth exploring places include El Tajin, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, 15 kilometers away and home to a downtown area for an amazing shopping experience. From the famous El cerro del abuelo or Del Abuelo Hill, one can see the entire city, its setting, the site of sectioned fields and the oil pumps still working, as oil is today  still being extracted.

Each year, on 18th of March, the city holds a holiday known as “Desfile del 18 de marzo”, honoring the Mexican oil expropriation, with two beautiful parades held twice, in the morning and in the afternoon.
