Chankanaab Park is one of the most popular attractions of Cozumel. It is situated 9 kilometers on the ocean side road and in 1980; it was decreed as a National Park and also an area for shelter, protection and refuge for flora and marine fauna on east coast of Cozumel Island. There is also provision of swimming area here at the park and one can plunge into the underwater world and get to enjoy Christ and Virgin sculptures too. Within the park, there is the ancestral mystery which was at one time occupied by Mayan settlements. The word, Chankanaab comes from the Mayan language, Chan means small and Kanaab means sea.
