The MACAY is the central repository of modern (post-colonial) art in Merida which occupies modern and historical art, from local as well as national artists. The building that now occupies the museum used to be the city's Armory. Some attractions are the notable samples of embroidery in Yucatan (Maya Chuy) and Mexican silverworks (Tane Orfebres) among other permanent exhibits of major historic and cultural attraction. The Museo de Contemporaneo Ateneo de Yucatan (Yucatan Museum of Contemporary Art) is located in the premises of a government-owned building in the center of downtown, on Pasaje de la Revolucion.
