Merida: Streets, Squares and Neighbourhoods

At the start of the 20th century the Paseo Montejo was built in accordance to the Paris boulevards. The 3-lined boulevard passes through a residential area and occupies many monuments, among which is the Monumento a la Patria (Monument to the Fatherland) that was built amid 1946-1957 by the Columbian sculptor Rómulo Rozo, while also the Merida Contemporary Art Museum. Also, here, every Saturday night a small street fair is held along with live music and stalls selling food and handicrafts. The boulevard’s prominent sections show Mexico's history and important profiles in the Maya style.
