Uxmal can be described as a huge pre-Columbian cleaned out city belonging to Maya Civilization in Yucatan State, Mexico.
Uxmal lies at the distance of 78 Km on the southern side of Merida, Yucatan; and 15 Km on the south-southeastern side of Muna town.
As per Maya Chronicles, Uxmal had been founded by Hun Uizil Chac Tutul Xiu. in around 500 AD. Also, it has been believed that Xiu family ruled Uxmal for several generations. In around 1200 AD, powers of Uxmal were transferred to Mayapan. Thereafter, this place witnessed decline in population; thanks to Xiu moving capital of theirs to Mani.
Uxmal can boast of rainy season from October onwards. That way, the finest period to pay a visit is from 8th to 30th of September. Hence, one can say that Uxmal has been divided in to 2 seasons: summers and rains.
Population of Uxmal was around 27000 once upon a time. However, it has drastically reduced in the last few years.
