Apart from housing two of Mexico’s finest museums, the pink-stoned Cathedral with its two massive bell towers is a fine example of Mexican stone masonry. Next to the cathedral is the eighteenth-century Plaza De Armas square which has the Palacio de Gobierno with its iron balconies and a few international hotels.

Take a tour of the old El Eden Mine, which starts with a small train ride into its underground depths. You will be surprised to find the mine now has an underground discotheque. A ride on the Austrian-made aerial tramway or teleferico is an enjoyable treat as it takes you above the winding alleys and roads.

Go shopping at the Gonsalez Ortegoa Market, or take a train ride up the De La Bufa Hill after you visit the remarkable aqueduct at the Enrique Estrada Park.

The Zacatecas Fair is held every September; it showcases the cultural and commercial development of the city. During the holy week in March/April, a cultural festival is also held.
