Situated in Summit County, the city of Akron is located along the Ohio-Erie Canal in the hills of the Western Reserve in Ohio, USA. It is spread over an area of 161.6 sq km and has a population of around 220,000.
Akron has a humid, continental climate, characterized with cold winters and warm, humid summers. Summer temperatures range from 17°C to 28°C while winter temperatures range from –8°C to 1°C. Spring is wet and cool, while autumn is generally dry.
Founded in 1825 by Simon Perkins, the city is known as the ‘rubber capital of the world’ due to the establishment of many major tyre manufacturing companies.
Akron is home to many fantastic museums such as the National Inventors Hall of Fame and the Akron Art Museum. The Quaker Square, housed in the former Quaker Oats mill building, is a shopping hub. Sports lovers can enjoy a baseball game at the Canal Park Stadium, while others can marvel at the natural beauty of Cuyahoga Falls.
