Shelby County, i.e. geographic center pertaining to Alabama; had been created on 7th of February, 1818 through one of the acts of ‘Alabama Territorial General Assembly’, prior to Alabama gaining statehood on 14th of December, 1819. The name ‘Shelby’ was given to honor Isaac Shelby, i.e. hero of ‘King’s Mountain Battle’ that had taken place at the time of Revolutionary War.
