US Snag boat Montgomery
In the year 1989 in the month of June, US Snag boat Montgomery was assigned the status of a ‘National Historic Landmark’ by the Department of the Interior. Having served between 1926 and 1982, such a steam-powered stern wheel snag boat went on to work Southern inland waterways. Impressive history of Montgomery involved 7 navigable rivers of the Southern area. Snag boats performed the task of removing underwater trees, snags, branches, or stumps which created obstructions in the way of river navigation. These obstacles were then pulled by a huge clamshell or grapple which was placed on snag boat’s boom.
