The name was coined by Henry Grady of Atlanta Newspaper for the city’s careful designing. Anniston is also the county seat of Anniston-Oxford Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Anniston, the main business centre of the Calhoun County is situated at the foothills of the Appalachian Mountain range which is one of the oldest mountain ranges in the world.
