Fort Payne is a very famous city in Alabama, United States. It is also the "Official Sock Capital of the World" which makes it a very special city of Alabama. According to the Census Bureau, the city is supposed to have a total area of 56 square miles out of which, 55.9 square miles is land and 0.1 square miles of it is water. The town is located in a narrow valley on Big Wills Creek which lies on the western outskirts of Lookout Mountain. Fort Payne is very much famous for its moderate and subtropical climate offering warm summers and cool winters. Winters are mostly cool with two or three snowfalls in the season. The area is also subjected to occasional tornadoes. The weather is bearable even in the summers as the temperature ranges around 20 degrees. It suffers from a mediate rainfall thus granting allowance for the cultivation of crops, fruits, vegetables, etc. At the 2000 census the population was recorded around 12,938.
