Fort Payne is the control center for the close by tiny River Canyon National Preserve which is a very famous National Park in a total area of about 57 square kilometers. It was established in 1992 by the Congress and is a very beautiful place of tourist attraction. Another tourist attraction is the De Soto State Park which is based on the natural reserves along with facilities for lodging, restaurants and cabins. The city also includes the amazing Museum and Fan Club which are located in the center of the city. Fort Payne also has water recreational areas such as Lake Weiss and Guntersville Lake which is a simulated lake on the banks of the Coosa River. A popular mountain resort, Mentone is well known for children camps in the summer and beautiful hotels and restaurants. Travelling in Fort Payne is very easy because of the well-equipped transportation facilities. The famous U.S. highway also passes by through this city.
