Huntsville is located in the Tennessee River Valley around the Big Spring. It is the county seat of Madison County in Alabama, USA. Huntsville has a population of around 168,000 and is spread over an area of 451.8 sq km.
Huntsville has a subtropical climate, consisting of hot, humid summers and mild winters. Temperatures range from 32°C in summer to 9°C in winter. Tornadoes can also be expected in the spring and fall seasons.
Known as the ‘Birthplace of Alabama’, Huntsville was named after John Hunt who was the first settler around the Big Spring. The ‘space capital of America’ is home to the US Space and Rocket Center.
Many caves can be found under the city’s limestone bedrock. Surrounded by large hills, the city’s terrain is conducive to outdoor activities. Its landscape is characterized with cypress trees and winding rivers, making it a popular golf destination.
