It’s fairly easy to find short uninhabited beaches a short distance off many of the hiking trails along the coastline near Anchorage. Keep your hiking boots on though because even during the summer months the waters are still cold. If there’s a low tide, you won’t find smooth sandy beaches, rather expect to feel the rough gravel and silt from the glaciers that wash up along the shoreline.
Still craving a swim in the waters of Alaska? Jewel and Goose Lake beaches are supervised with lifeguards from May through August daily from noon to 9 pm.
