Anchorage, also known as the ‘Land of the Midnight Sun’, is the largest city in the US state of Alaska. It is a major port city which lies in the south-central region of the state, at the base of the Chugach Mountains and on the coast of Cook Inlet.
Apart from being the hub of the Alaska Railroad, it is also home to the Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport based in the city’s downtown area.
The weather in Anchorage is said to be very unpredictable. Summer is an ideal time to visit, with long days and temperatures between 13°C–27°C. On the other hand, in winters, days are very short and dark, with temperatures falling as low as –15°C.
With a population of more than 275,000 people, Anchorage is an exotic destination for tourists. Its economy is also based on petroleum and the presence of the US military.
