Experience how the tribes of Alaska have survived the elements and made the most of the land at the 26-acre Alaska Native Heritage Center. Live up-close performances by native dancers entertain while musicians bang on drums and storytellers bring to life the history of the Alaska people. Walk through life-sized exhibits of entire indoor and outdoor Alaskan villages or watch crafters at work, all part of the authentic representations of 11 cultural groups that have shaped the traditions of Alaska. Beware of occasional bear sighting known to happen, if you’re lucky. The center is ten minutes east of downtown. A gift shop offers authentic hand-made masks, jewelry, dolls and original artworks for purchase.
