Pick up a freshly-baked banana fig muffin or a raspberry lemon scone at the Fire Island Rustic Bake Shop before heading out to Elderberry Park and a spot at one of their picnic tables or benches. The dedicated city park dates back to the early 1900s. After breakfast wear off the calories with a hike on the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail. It winds past the Pacific and offers picture perfect views of Cook Inlet.
Upon your return take trip back in time to the restored Oscar Anderson House. Once home to Swedish immigrant Oscar Anderson also in the early 1900s, it’s now a museum with many of his belongings on display including an antique player piano. For live entertainment in the evening there are a multitude of genres to satisfy the takes of everyone at the nearby downtown Anchorage Alaska Center for the Performing Arts, a dramatically designed world-class facility on 6th Avenue where opera, theatre, ballet and concerts are performed. Afterwards visit McGinley’s Pub, a nearby typical Irish Pub and indulge in the Alaska Reindeer sausage, pub style battered halibut, corned beef and cabbage and Shepherd’s Pie, all while be serenaded by live bagpiping. South Addition is directly east of the Pacific Ocean and west of downtown Anchorage. Minnesota Drive runs through it as the main thoroughfare.
