Tourist Guide Elmendorf Afb
Elmendorf Air Force Base, better known as Elmendorf AFB can be referred to as a ‘United States Air Force Base’ adjoining Anchorage, i.e. Alaska’s biggest city.
It’s a home to Head Quarters, ALCOM (Alaskan Command), ANR (Alaskan NORAD Region), 11 AF (Eleventh Air Force),the ‘3d Wing’, and certain Tenant Units. The host unit of Elmendorf AFB is the 3d Wing. It trains as well as equips an ‘Air Expeditionary Force’ lead wing which consists of 6900 personnel. E-3B, F-22A, C-17, F-15C/D, and C-12F/J are also included in the ‘3d Wing’.
The mission of Elmendorf is to defend and support interests of the US in Asia Pacific region by having provided units that are prepared for projection of air power all over the world. It also moves with the objective of designing a base which has the ability of meeting throughput and theater staging requirements of PACOM.
