MISTY fjords national museum was opened on December 1, 1978 and covers an area of about 2,294,343 acres of tongass national forest in the panhandle of southeast Alaska. The area is called “the Yosemite of the north” for its geology being similar to that of the north. The monument is managed by the US forest service, an agency within the US department of agriculture.
