Unalaska can be described as a petite city located in ‘Aleutians West Census Area’ of Alaska’s Unorganized Borough.
Unalaska stands on ‘Unalaska Island’; along with adjoining Amaknak Island in ‘Aleutian Islands’ off ‘mainland Alaska’. Aleut people were the first ones to occupy this place. They had named it ‘Ounalashka’; which meant ‘Near the Peninsula’.
As per US Census Bureau, area of Unalaska on the whole comes out to be 549.9 sq. Km; out of which 47.71% consists of water. This place can boast of an oceanic climate with fairly uniform and moderate temperatures, apart from heavy rainfall.
Mists/fogs would be seen on a regular basis. Weather during the summer season happens to be cooler as compared to southeast Alaska. However, temperature in winter season remains almost the same.
As per census conducted in the year 2000, population of Unalaska was 4283.
Unalaska is known to have government of ‘mayor-council’ form.
