Anchorage is said to be an ‘open backyard’ with plenty of space. Relax at the huge 500,000 acre Chugach State Park or watch desperate fishermen trying to catch Alaska’s prize salmon at the downtown Ship Creek.
A visit in February will treat you to the spectacular International Ice Carving Competition at the Alaska Centre for the Performing Arts. Summer tourists can view the Wild Salmon on Parade sculptures with live music filling city blocks.

Also note that with a moose population of more than 1,600, you will have a considerable number of then escorting you on your hiking trails or even peeking into homes in quaint Anchorage neighbourhoods.
