Canyon de Chelly National Monument was established on 1 April 1931. It is an important cultural site in America and is thus listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The monument is home to ancient architecture, artefacts and rock art. The site preserves all of these and provides a platform to the present generation to know their history and culture. Moreover, the aboriginals of this region, the Navajo People, still reside here in their original habitat.
With three canyons bordering the monument, there is enchanting scenic beauty all around. Out of the several trails only the White House Ruin Trail is accessible to the public. The North Rim Drive and South Rim Drive are the most easily accessible and popular sites to explore the monument. |
