Casa Grande Ruins National Monument is an important historic site. It was listed as a national monument in the year 1918. However, the park was established as early as 1889.
The visitor centre houses the fee collection station, a bookstore and a museum. It also screens a short video about this national monument. There is a picnic area at a little distance from the visitor centre. The major attraction at the monument is a four-storey fourteenth-century building belonging to the Hohokam period. It is believed that the structure served the purpose of an astronomical observatory in the ancient times. The Big House is known for its architecture and can be seen from a distance. A part of the Gila Valley, the Casa Grande Ruins is also a place of panoramic scenic beauty. |
