| Attractions and things to do |
Hohokam Pima National Monument was established on 21 October 1972; it preserves an ancient village known as the ‘Snaketown’. Several excavations have suggested that the site had been inhabited as early as 300 BC up to 1200 AD. This national monument has also been listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The monument is currently under the possession of the Gila River Indian Community, and they do not want the sensitive areas of the monument to be opened to the public. Thus, a casual tour of the park is not possible. This national monument is an important archaeological site as it preserves the remains of the Hohokam culture.
The most important nearby attraction is the Casa Grande Ruins National Monument and its visitor centre. |
