Arizona: Introduction

Arizona has an area of 295,254 sq km and a population of more than 5 million people. The state’s capital city is Phoenix.

Arizona is located in the south-western region of the USA. It is bordered by the states of New Mexico, Utah, Nevada, California and Colorado. The state also shares a 626 km international border with the Mexican states of Sonora and Baja California. Arizona is known for its varied topography; apart from the desert landscape, more than half of the state has mountains, plateaus and gorges (of which the Grand Canyon is world-renowned).
