Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument was established on 13 April 1937 and was declared an International Biosphere Reserve in the year 1976. The region is famous for the wild organ pipe cactus, the Sonoran pronghorn, mountain lions and several other species of mammals, reptiles and birds.
The Kris Eggle Visitor Centre is the best place to start the trip. The Twin Peak Campground and Alamo are good spots for camping. The Ajo Mountain Drive is the most popular scenic drive at the monument. The Puerto Blanco Drive is also a good route to explore this national monument. This park also has some great hiking tracks. The Palo Verde Trail, Desert View Trail, Victoria Mine Trail and Arch Canyon Trail are some of the excellent trails at the park. |
